Welcome to Mixed Media Art

Creating Mixed Media Art is my passion and I’m here to share that passion with you. You don’t need any formal training or be especially artistic to be part of this crafting / art phenomenon.  The brilliant thing about mixed media art is that you can do it with your current level of crafting and using things that you already have around you.

What is Mixed Media Art?

Mixed media art refers to a broad range of  art styles and techniques, including collage, 3D  pieces, altered books, scrapbooking and many, many other things. The term “mixed media” applied to the different things you have used in your art work. This includes paint, papers and cardboard, pens, found objects and images. Almost anything you have around the house can be used in a mixed media piece. Once you begin to think in terms of “mixed media”, you will begin to find all sorts of things that can be stuck on to add interest, create layers and help you to tell your story.

Where do I start?

There is a huge online community that is always happy and willing to share techniques and knowledge. So have a hunt around and see what you can find. The “Links” section will begin to point you in the right direction. But rest assured that you can begin on your first mixed media project with just some knowledge of the basics. Learning along the way is all art of the fun!

Still not sure where to start?

Grab some cardboard, even if it’s from a cereal packet, and add some paint. Next stick a few layers to it; some interesting background text is always nice. You could even make your own credit card painting backgrounds. Then add a nice image, a few fancy embellishments and there you have it! Your very first mixed media art piece. Don’t be scared – just give it a try!
